A man was airlifted to hospital after he fell overboard from a 21m fishing vessel off the East Yorkshire coast.

RNLI received a mayday call following the incident 10 miles east of Bridlington at about 14:15 GMT on 13 January.

The Bridlington volunteer crew of six and the Flamborough crew of three arrived at the scene within 15 minutes of launching, finding the man back on board but showing signs of hypothermia.

He was airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary by a Coastguard helicopter once it was established he was well enough to be moved.

Andy Rodgers, coxswain of the Bridlington lifeboat, said: "This was an excellent launch with the lifeboat hitting the water in 19 minutes from receiving the mayday call.

"We made excellent speed to the scene, joining the HM Coastguard helicopter and Flamborough RNLI within minutes of each other.

"Thankfully, the casualty had already been recovered and after being assessed and treated by the HM Coastguard paramedic, we placed two crew members onboard the vessel to assist with the transfer of casualty to the helicopter before [he was] flown to hospital for further checks."
