The police are investigating an overnight attack on the DUP constituency office of Sammy Wilson in Carrickfergus.

They say damage to windows and doors "may have been" caused by ball bearings.

Mr Wilson, who is standing for re-election as MP for east Antrim, believes some sort of firearm was used.

The incident on Lancasterian Street in Carrickfergus was reported to police shortly after 09:30 BST on Wednesday, but is believed to have happened overnight.

The veteran politician said he had received no threats, but he would not be deterred.

"Officers remain at the scene as part of our investigation to establish the circumstances around this incident," Supt Ian McCormick said.

"As part of our enquiries, we are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area overnight and saw anything suspicious, or who may have CCTV, dashcam or other video footage."
