One person has been taken to hospital following a serious crash between an HGV and a car on the A90 in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services were called to the Cruden Bay area after the collision at about 13:00.

The Scottish Ambulance Service told BBC Scotland News it had dispatched "multiple resources" to the scene.

Police Scotland said the road had been closed in both directions and was expected to remain closed for a "number of hours". Drivers have been urged to avoid the area if possible.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call to attend an incident on the A90, near Longhaven.

"We dispatched two ambulances, three special operations response teams (SORT), one trauma team, and one air ambulance to the scene. One patient was transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary."
