College celebrates national motorsport success
A motorsports engineering course director has heaped praise on his team of students after they finished on the podium at a national competition.
Alan Barrett said his side from West Suffolk College were pushing the winning team until the end, while lauding their third place finish as "absolutely fantastic".
The college has taken part in the CityCar Cup Championship for the last three years, competing against other colleges and universities from across the UK.
Brady Pollock, a student who was driving for the college, also claimed the title of the highest-placed novice.
The championship offers students the opportunity to compete against each other at some of the UK's most recognised racetracks including Silverstone and Snetterton.
Students from the college in Bury St Edmunds work on the car as part of their course and Pollock then had to drive it for the contest.
"The students that have actually been involved in doing the preparation and repairing the cars, they've actually done really well," said Mr Barrett.
"They've shown what they can do and most of them have gone on and found jobs."
Pollock said: "It gives me the confidence to push to the next step.
"It shows that we can actually do it, push to the front and challenge the guys that have been doing it for a few more years than we have."
The teenager, from Haverhill, also thanked his fellow students and the course director for their help through their motorsport level three course.
