A pub famous among match-going football fans could be converted into a 26-bed guest house after the club moves to its new stadium.

The Winslow Hotel on Goodison Road, in the shadow of Goodison Park stadium's main stand, was voted best match day pub in 2017.

Everton are months away from moving to the club's new home on Bramley Moore Dock, creating uncertainty for many of the businesses around the 133-year-old stadium that thrived on match-day trade.

Liverpool council has received a planning application to convert the Winslow, known locally as the People's Pub, into a guest-house.

According to planning documents, a series of amendments have been proposed to create a total of 16 rooms across two floors.

This will include repurposing the existing bar and function rooms, the Local Democracy Reporting Service reports.

The conversion to a hotel could be a new lease of life for the Winslow, which was forced to close its doors in 2012 owing to financial difficulties.

It had been the home of Everton Supporters (Goodison) Club since 1995 and reopened under new management in March 2014.
