Annalise Smith wants to see an average speed check system installed on the A52

A woman has raised a petition to install speed cameras along the A52 near Skegness following the death of a moped rider in a head-on crash.

On Saturday, a 23-year-old died when his Zontes Firefly 125cc moped collided with a Ford C-Max and a Nissan Micra at Croft Bank at about 20:45 GMT.

Annalise Smith, who lives near the crash scene, has called for an average speed check system to reduce the number of accidents.

Lincolnshire Police said a 19-year-old arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving had been released under investigation.

Ms Smith said she felt compelled to start the petition after hearing about the death.

"Losing a life is sad anyway but especially when it's so close to Christmas," she said.

The mother-of-three added: "The last thing I want is for any of them to get in an accident."

Commenting on the road, the 24-year-old said: "There are so many bends as you get closer to Skegness, and people become too impatient.

"Nothing is really going to stop reckless driving, but an average speed check camera from Wainfleet up to Skegness where it drops from a 50mph into a 30mph zone would make sense."

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Ms Smith said at least seven lives had been lost on the stretch of road since June 2021.

She added: "How many more lives need to be lost? How much more heartbreak do people need to go through for something to happen?"

Ms Smith's petition has so far amassed more than 470 signatures, with local councillors pledging to meet with highways officials in the new year to discuss the issue.
