Estate to become home of new therapy centre

The barn has Grade II listed status

A country estate will be home to a new therapy and healing centre.

Wiltshire Council has approved plans for the Grade II Listed Tithe Barn at Bowden Park Estate near Chippenham.

The estate was put on the market in 2020 at a guide price of £35m and was sold to new owners.

They plan to dedicate the facility to helping people with "mental health, physical health, nutrition, low-impact living, community and recovery".

The therapy and healing centre will be located on a farm complex near the main residence, reports the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

It is not yet known when the work will be completed.

The application stated: "Dating from the 1800s, the Tithe Barn has suffered much damage and repair over the course of its lifetime, including a phase of reroofing in the 1960s."

It also said: "The barn is understood to have been empty and redundant for approximately 30 years."

The full estate includes about 68 acres of parkland, 303 acres of arable, 59 acres of pasture and 186 acres of woodland, surrounding the Georgian house’s 22 acres of grounds.
