Festivalgoers descend on Cropredy for Fairport

Thousands of festivalgoers are set to descend on a rural village for one of the UK's largest folk rock festivals.

Fairport's Cropredy Convention opened its gates at 14:00 BST on Thursday.

The festival, which takes place in Cropredy, near Banbury, has been staged in the area annually since 1980.

This year's bill includes the festival's organisers and British folk rock band, Fairport Convention, as well as (Is This The Way To) Amarillo singer Tony Christie and prog rock icon Rick Wakeman.

The festival, which began as an annual reunion for the members of Fairport Convention, has previously hosted the likes of Alice Cooper and Nile Rogers.

It will be drawn to a conclusion by Fairport on Saturday evening, with a surprise guest also featuring.
