Child killed by tree branch confirmed as girl, 12
Police have confirmed that the child who died after being struck by a falling tree branch in Surrey was a 12-year-old girl.
Emergency services were called to Grove Place, Banstead, just after 16:00 GMT on Saturday.
Officers from the Met Police attended with the London Fire Brigade (LFB) and London Ambulance Service.
The force confirmed on Monday that a girl, aged 12, died from her injuries at the scene. No further information about the girl’s identity has been given.
A report will be prepared for the coroner in due course, police said.
A spokesperson for the Met said: “Sadly, the girl died from her injuries. Officers are in the process of ensuring that all family members have been informed.
“The incident is not believed to be suspicious, however enquiries continue to establish the circumstances.”
Pat Goulbourne, Assistant Commissioner at the LFB, said the fire service did all it could to save the girl’s life.
"The thoughts of our crews and staff across the entire brigade are with the child's family at this difficult time,” he added.
