Eight months of roadworks to start in Pocklington

Roadworks are due to start in Pocklington town centre in January and last for eight months.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council said it was investing £1.2m in a package of work to resurface roads and paths in the town centre.

The work will be carried out in Union Street, West Green, Market Square and Market Place where a new pedestrianised area will be created around the Jubilee monument.

Meanwhile, a new bus service is due to launch in December to enable villagers from Fridaythorpe and Millington the chance to travel into Pocklington on market days.

The service will be operated by York Pullman and will run on Tuesdays only.

It is being introduced by the council using government funding it was awarded from the Department for Transport for bus service improvements.

The council said none of the resurfacing work would take place in Market Square or Market Place on Tuesdays so the market could continue as usual.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “This is significant investment which will refresh the roads and paths in the town centre for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors.

“We have tried to keep disruption to a minimum and I want to thank people for bearing with us while we carry out this scheme.”
