Peregrine falcon seen with first egg of 2025

A peregrine falcon nesting in a town hall has laid its first egg of the year.
The bird of prey, which has made its home at the Grade II-listed building in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, was spotted with the egg on Tuesday.
Two of the falcons, which live in a box at the town hall, can be seen by the public around the clock during the breeding season via webcams run by the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.
The trust said the pair laid four eggs in 2024, all of which hatched in late April and fledged from the nest in early June.
Peregrines were among the "fastest animals on the planet", reaching speeds of up to 200mph (321.9km/h) when diving down on their prey from a great height, the group said.
All of last year's chicks, the first of which was born on 18 March 2024, were given a health check by licensed bird handlers and fitted with small metal leg rings to help identify them in the future.
