A new housing development would see 500 energy efficient homes built, of which 150 would be affordable, a Devon council has said.

The development, which would be built on Stoggy Lane in Plympton, also includes plans for a wetland greenspace and up to 2,000 trees.

The plans are due to be presented at a Plymouth City Council meeting on 9 September.

Chris Penberthy, cabinet member for housing, communities and cooperative development, said: "Plymouth, like so many other cities in the UK, is in the midst of a national housing crisis and one of the obvious solutions to this is to build more houses."

Public consultation

The land at Stoggy Lane is owned by Plymouth City Council, but falls within the boundary of South Hams District Council.

Plymouth City Council said, alongside South Hams District Council, it was ready to apply for planning permission.

It added before an application was made for planning permission a public consultation would take place in September to allow residents to learn more and feedback on the plans.

That data would then be fed into a final design before a final planning application would be submitted in Spring 2025, it said.
