Rail services resume after lorry hits bridge

Rail services in parts of the West Midlands were disrupted after a lorry hit a bridge and toppled over.

The vehicle struck the bridge in Erdington between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley at about 12:25 GMT which led to rail lines closing and affecting Cross-City services, operators said.

Routes between Bromsgrove and Lichfield Trent Valley and Redditch and Four Oaks were disrupted until about 15:00 GMT, National Rail said.

The driver was checked over at the scene and did not require further treatment, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

"We were called to reports of a lorry that had crashed into a bridge and overturned near to the junction of South Road and Summer Road," a spokesperson added.

National Rail said replacement transport was operating between Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield with rail tickets accepted on National Express and London Northwestern Railway.
