Pedestrians seriously hurt after being hit by car

A man and a woman have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car.

The crash happened just before 13:00 GMT at the junction of Bristol Road and Frankley Beeches Road in Northfield, Birmingham, West Midlands Police said.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is due to be questioned, the force said.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the pair were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.

The police said the road was likely to remain closed for some time while crash investigators are at the scene.
