Patients attending Cumberland Infirmary's Emergency Department will need to use the main entrance from Monday

Patients attending a hospital's Emergency Department have been warned they will need to use a different entrance as months of building work takes place.

From Monday, access will be through the main front doors at Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and not the current department entrance.

There will be signs in place throughout the atrium, as well as volunteers to help direct people.

The closure, which will be in place until late 2025, is due to construction work on a new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).

Work on the £12m facility, which is aimed at reducing pressure on the Accident and Emergency Department, began in February.

When complete it will provide 12 consultation rooms, ancillary staff areas, clinical storage space and patient waiting areas.
