Man City star's message to boy stuck in hospital

Man City star Rico Lewis tells Danny, who is stuck in hospital, to "keep his head up"

Manchester City footballer Rico Lewis has sent a message to a teenager who has been stuck in hospital for two years to "keep going", adding the team he supports are "all with you".

The defender recorded a video message for 15-year-old Danny, from Freckleton in Lancashire, who had a stroke during an operation at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

He is unable to be discharged due to his family home being inaccessible for his needs.

His father Nigel said his son was "smiling ear to ear" after being shown the message from Lewis, which was arranged by BBC Radio Manchester.

The Manchester City star told Danny "keep your head up", adding "going through a tough time at the moment, keep your head, but we’re all with you, keep going".

"It went down a storm," Nigel said.

"He couldn’t believe it, we’ve played it to him numerous times now.

"He is non-verbal but he can still make his thoughts known – and you certainly know when he’s happy and that made him very happy."

The club has also invited Danny to watch their home match against Southampton on 26 October.

His parents said he was a very active boy before his stroke, adding that he had always been a big Manchester City fan.

They are appealing for funds to try and move to a new home that can be adapted for Danny's needs so he can leave hospital.

"We’re going to get him home," they said, and thanked people for their messages of support.
