Teen killed in motorbike crash 'had biggest heart'

A teenager who was killed in a motorbike crash had the "biggest heart", his family has said.

Spencer Crofts, 17, from Woodchurch, Wirral, died at the scene in Hoole Road, Woodchurch, following the incident at about 18:25 GMT on Saturday.

Paying tribute to Mr Crofts, his family said he was "the most loyal, genuine lad" and was "always smiling and lived life to the full".

An 18-year-old man also suffered multiple serious injuries and is in a critical condition in hospital, Merseyside Police said.

Ch Insp Charlotte Irlam said: "Our thoughts are with the family of Spencer Crofts, who died following the collision last night and I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to members of the public who have any information, which could assist our inquiries to establish how this young man lost his life, to come forward."

The families of Mr Crofts and the injured man are being supported by specially trained officers.

The collision involving a red and black scrambler bike ridden by Mr Crofts along with a Suron electric bike occurred at the junction of Hoole Road and Grass Wood Road, police added.

Merseyside Police said there were a number of young people in the area at the time and that, after the crash, both bikes had been "immediately removed by some of those in attendance".

Forensic examinations are underway, along with house-to-house inquiries and examination of CCTV footage.

'Family need answers'

Police said local officers would be providing reassurance in the area, supported by specialist officers.

Chief Insp Irlam said police were examining a scrambler bike found in the area to see if it was one of the bikes involved in the collision.

She urged the young people who were in the area at the time "to search their conscience and get in touch with us".

Chief Insp Irlam said Mr Crofts and the man injured in the crash "may well have been your friends and surely you would want us to be able to tell the families why and how this happened".

"They will need answers going forward and you may well be able to help us to do that," she said.

Merseyside Police has urged anyone with information or video footage to contact them.
