Village's £1.7m flood prevention scheme completed
A project aimed at protecting a village from future flooding has been completed.
Flimby in west Cumbria was among the first to be flooded during Storm Desmond on 3 December, 2015, two days before Cockermouth and Keswick were left under water.
About 100 homes in the village were affected and it is hoped the £1.7m flood alleviation scheme will help to protect them.
Cumberland Council's Denise Rollo, executive member for resilient places, said the investment was "essential" to avoid the "devastation that flooding can bring to people's lives".
The work included diverting the Cat Gill watercourse to Bragg Beck, installing drainage systems, remediation work to culverts and natural flood management measures such as leaky dams.
It was funded through money from Defra and the Environment Agency.
