A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder almost two years after a man was attacked and bundled into a car.

Martin Shaw, 45, was taken to hospital in a critical condition after being set upon in Ashton Road, Oldham, at around 21:30 GMT on 10 September 2023.

Mr Shaw died the following month, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed.

On Thursday, the force announced a 36-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of Mr Shaw's murder.

'Targeted attack'

Shortly after the incident, in which Mr Shaw suffered "significant injuries" before being left at his home, a woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

She was later released.

Det Insp Victoria Wade, from Oldham CID, urged anyone with any video footage from the area around that time to get in touch.

"We believe this to be a targeted attack and we are keen to ensure that the local community are reassured that we are doing everything to bring the right person to justice," she said.

"If you know anything no matter how big or small, please do get in touch."
