Glasshouse could grow up to 19 million trees a year

A glasshouse capable of growing up to 19 million trees per year from seed is set to be fully operational by the end of this year.
The facility at Newton Nursery, near Elgin, will be about the size of two football pitches once fully fitted out, according to Foresty and Land Scotland (FLS).
The keys have now been handed over for the glasshouse which should allow FLS to more than double its tree production capacity.
The site has had a total investment of £26m and support from the Scottish government.
The investment also includes new offices and a new distribution and operations centre.
Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs Mairi Gougeon said: "The modernisation of Newton Nursery - which includes technology to allow for the planting of one million tree seedlings in a single day - will help the organisation improve operational efficiency and flexibility.
"Growing trees from seed inside the glasshouse instead of outdoors in fields, will allow FLS to have much better control over the growing environment."
