Bus driver arrested after pedestrian hurt in crash

A bus driver has been arrested after a pedestrian was seriously injured in a crash in Leeds.

The pedestrian, a woman in her forties, was taken to hospital following the incident, which happened in The Headrow shortly before 13:30 GMT on Sunday.

The driver, a 46-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving, West Yorkshire Police said.

He has since been released under investigation while inquiries are ongoing.

Bus operator First confirmed one of its drivers had been suspended in relation to the incident.

A spokesperson said: "The safety and wellbeing of our passengers, drivers and the public are our number one priority.

"We are conducting a full investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the incident and supporting the police with its investigations."
