Victim and suspect hunted after 'hammer attack'

Police have urged anyone with information about an alleged hammer attack to contact them after officers were unable to find either the assailant or victim.

A number of people reported the alleged attack, which took place in High Street, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, at 17:30 BST on Saturday.

Police officers were then sent to the scene, but they were unable to find a casualty or the attacker.

Any witnesses or anyone with information has been asked to contact police.

A spokesman for the force said: "Officers are carrying out further inquiries after a number of reports were received relating to an assault in the High Street, Market Harborough, around 5.30pm on Saturday.

"It's believed a man may have been assaulted by someone carrying a hammer. When officers arrived at the location, no-one was found.

"Inquiries are ongoing to locate the victim and identify the suspect.

"If anyone witnessed the incident or has any information which may assist, they are asked to get in touch."
