Matthew Bye pleaded guilty to 13 historical child sex offences against one victim

A man described as a "danger to all children" by his victim has been jailed for sex offences.

Mark Bye, previously of Acorn Way in Red Lodge, Suffolk, pleaded guilty to 13 child sex offences against a boy over a four-year period.

In a statement read to the court, the victim said Bye left them feeling "ashamed, disgusted and mostly afraid to speak".

Bye has been jailed for seven years and four months at Cambridge Crown Court.

"The sexual abuse has impacted my life in so many ways, especially my relationships with loved ones and immediate family," the victim said.

"Until now I have never told anyone! I have always felt ashamed, disgusted and mostly afraid to speak of it. The painful memories are extreme.

"I honestly believe [Bye] is a danger to all children and young people."

'Truly awful'

Bye pleaded guilty to:

  • A serious sexual offence with a boy under 16 years of age
  • Attempt to commit a serious sexual offence with a boy under 16 years of age
  • Eight counts of indecent assault of a child
  • Three counts of indecency with a child

Det Con George Bullent, the investigating officer, described Bye's crimes as "truly awful".

"I want to commend the victim for his bravery in coming forward and working with us throughout the investigative process.

"I hope that his bravery gives others the confidence to do the same."
