A pedestrian in his 50s has died in a crash involving several vehicles on the eastbound carriageway of the M2 in Kent, police have said.

The incident happened between junction five near Stockbury and junction six for Faversham, shortly after 20:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Kent Police appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage.

The road is expected to remain closed until Thursday evening, with motorists advised to check for travel updates on the National Highways website.

A police spokesperson said: "Patrols and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended and a man in his 50s was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin has been informed.

"An investigation into the circumstances is underway.

"Investigators would also like to speak to motorists who may have driven through the scene immediately after the incident, but before the arrival of emergency services."

National Highways said: "Closures will remain in place until into the evening [on Thursday] as police continue their investigations."
