Councillor swaps from independents to Labour
A West Northamptonshire councillor has jumped from the independent group to the Labour Party.
Sue Sharps, who represents Brackley ward, said she felt joining the party was "the best way to secure a brighter future for Brackley and beyond".
"I believe Labour will now be the voice for change on our council too after years of Conservative failures," she said, in a statement on social media.
"I believe change will only truly begin in West Northamptonshire through this Labour group."
Wendy Randall, the leader of the Labour group for West Northamptonshire Council, said it was "great news" that Ms Sharps had joined them.
Ian McCord, leader of the independent group at the council, said: "I wish Sue every possible success and thank her for her contribution to Brackley, West Northamptonshire Council and the independents to date.
"It has been a real pleasure to work with her."
