Paul Wilson was convicted of raping three women

A victim of a serial rapist discovered she was not the only person to have been targeted when she got a Facebook message from a second woman who had been attacked by the same man.

The first victim later confided in a third woman about her ordeal at the hands of Paul Wilson - only for the third woman to respond that Wilson had also raped her while she was sleeping.

The first victim said she had also been kicked in the legs, face and head by Wilson leaving her battered and bruised.

The 44-year-old, of Southport, Merseyside, was jailed for 21 years with an additional five years on licence after being convicted of four counts of rape and one of causing actual bodily harm at Liverpool Crown Court.

Passing sentence, Judge David Swinnerton told him: "You have shown no insight and no remorse."

'No remorse'

Gareth Roberts, prosecuting, told the court how one of the victims, who was raped on more than one occasion, found out about the second victim when she received the Facebook message.

The second woman said she had consensual sex with Wilson on occasion but on the final time he had raped her, only stopping when she hit him on the head with a heavy candle.

The third woman broke down and said she too had been raped by Wilson when the first victim described what had happened to her.

Lloyd Morgan, defending, said that Wilson had experienced "traumas" in his life but had been undergoing rehabilitation courses while on remand.

He must serve at least 14 years of his sentence before becoming eligible to apply for parole.

The court heard Wilson, of Queens Road, maintained his innocence and intended to appeal against his convictions.
