Firefighters came to the rescue after Scruff the dog got trapped under a concrete ledge

Firefighters came to the rescue after a curious dog called Scruff got stuck under a concrete ledge.

They spent the best part of an hour freeing Scruff after she got trapped under the ledge in Sible Hedingham, Essex, on Friday.

News of Scruff's adventure was revealed in a fire service social media post.

A senior officer said firefighters had done a "great job".

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters from Halstead were called to Scruff's aid.

"Crews were called to Queen Street in Sible Hedingham at 17:57 BST to reports that a curious canine had got trapped under a concrete ledge," said the fire service in a statement.

"Firefighters worked to free the dog by 18:48 BST."

Group manager Andy Message added: "Firefighters did a great job to free Scruff quickly.

"She was returned safely to her owners."
