A 93-year-old woman has died two days after being hit by a car.

Police previously said they were called to an injured pedestrian in Blandford Road North in Upton, Dorset, at about 09:15 GMT on Saturday.

Eileen Symes from Poole died in hospital on Monday, officers said.

In a statement issued by police, her family said she was a "strong-willed and independent lady with a love for life".

The family added: "Eileen was a much-loved and caring person. She lived a full and happy life and loved to travel.

“Eileen will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her niece.”

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident near Douglas Close, which they said involved a blue Ford Focus driven by a local woman aged in her 40s.
