A man who robbed and tied up his two victims, assaulted them and sprayed them with a fire extinguisher has been jailed for 15 years.

The attack happened in Scotch Firs in Milton Keynes in April.

Shaun Roadnight, 44, of Second Avenue in Sudbury, Suffolk, was found guilty of offences including false imprisonment and assault occasioning actual bodily harm at an earlier hearing at St Albans Crown Court.

Thames Valley Police said the "nasty and vicious assault" left his victims not knowing if they would survive the attack.

The force said one of the victims, a woman in her 30s, drove to her home in the Wavendon Gate area and left the electric gates open.

At about 18:16 BST on 11 April, as she walked into the house, Roadnight hit her from behind, causing her to fall onto her back.

She screamed, and a man in his 50s, who was in a home office, heard and came downstairs.

'Prolonged assault'

Police said that over the course of an hour and 45 minutes the victims were tied to a bed with cable ties, assaulted, sprayed with the contents of the fire extinguisher and the man had a glass bottle smashed over his head.

They were then dragged from room to room and asked where the safe was.

The woman eventually escaped and ran to a neighbour, who called the police, who arrived six minutes later.

The male victim suffered a bleed to the brain, three fractured ribs, swelling and bruising over his left eye socket, bruising to his cheeks and upper jaw, and an abrasion to his back.

The woman had bruising and was left with red marks on her arms, legs and wrists from being tied up.

Det Con Hazel Grant said: "This was a nasty and vicious assault where the victims were subjected to a prolonged assault not knowing the capabilities of the offenders and whether they would survive.

"The sentence Roadnight received is justified and reflects the gravity of his offences."
