A stretch of the A3 in Surrey has reopened following a weekend closure to install a pedestrian bridge.

The closure, between junction 10 of the M25 and the A247 near Send, was in both directions from 21:00 GMT on Friday.

National Highways previously said the Cockcrow Bridge would be the UK's first heathland green bridge, connecting the commons on either side and providing a safe corridor for wildlife.

The work forms part of a £317m project to improve junction 10, the busiest section of the M25, which sees more than 300,000 vehicles pass through it each day.

National Highways said the three-year project, which started in 2022, was expected to reduce congestion, create a smoother flow of traffic, and provide safer journeys for thousands every day.

Previous work around junction 10 has closed the M25.

The eastbound (anticlockwise) carriageway of the M25 will next be shut between junctions 11 and 10 from 22:00 on Thursday until 05:30 on Friday, and from 23:00 on Friday to 06:00 on Saturday.

Diversions will be in place.

National Highways said two more M25 full weekend closures will be needed 2025, with dates yet to be confirmed.

The project is expected to be fully completed in the summer.
