Speed cameras are set to patrol the A6 through Leicestershire.

A 30mph stretch of the road as it passes through Kibworth Harcourt is set to be added to the list of “community concern” sites that are visited by speed camera vans, said the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership.

Monitoring will be carried out from November for at least a year, said Leicestershire Police Sgt Peter Jelbert in a message to villagers.

This could be extended through to 18 months, he added.

Members of the public can nominate any road in Leicestershire and Rutland to be considered in the community concern scheme - but not all end up being monitored.

Partnership spokesperson Jonathan Clarkson previously said evidence of speeding and crashes was needed.

Only the A6 through Kibworth is being added during November but 15 roads were approved for monitoring in September.

The addition of the A6 comes after a speed survey carried out on the stretch north of the Wistow Road roundabout which found evidence of drivers routinely travelling faster than the limit.

Sites for patrols have been identified both north and south of the roundabout, said Sgt Jelbert.
