A man has been hospitalised with facial injuries after an assault in a town centre.

Hertfordshire Police advised people to avoid the A412, St Albans Road, in Watford, on Friday following a "serious assault".

The force was called to the incident at about 13:59 BST and the injured man, in his 50s, was taken to hospital.

Closures were in place near Cecil Street while emergency services were on the scene but it has since reopened.

Police said an investigation will follow.
