A man has been arrested following the death of a cyclist whose bike was struck by a lorry.

The 58-year-old rider died at the scene shortly after the collision on the A616, near Langsett Reservoir, which happened at about 10:30 BST on Monday, according to South Yorkshire Police.

The driver of the lorry, a 47-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention and driving while unfit through drink or drugs and had since been bailed, a force spokesperson said.

Police appealed for anyone with information or dashcam footage of the collision to get in touch.

"It is thought the cyclist was travelling along the A616 away from Flouch roundabout when the collision occurred near the water treatment works," the spokesperson said.

"A high number of vehicles are understood to have driven past the collision."

Members of the cyclist's family had been informed and were being supported by officers, they added.
