The RSPCA is appealing for help to find the owner of a dog that was discovered dead in a canal in Leicestershire.

On Thursday, the female black terrier-type dog was removed from the canal in Market Harborough, at the entrance near Great Bowden Hall.

A cause of death could not be established by the vet, the RSPCA said, as the body had been in the water for some time.

RSPCA inspector Beckie Harlock thanked those who reported the discovery, and asked if anyone who recognised the description or was currently searching for a dog to contact the organisation.
