Post lockers to be removed after several complaints

A bank of postage lockers are to be removed from a village street after a council received "multiple" complaints from the day they were installed.
The InPost lockers, which are used for parcel deliveries, were installed outside a shop in Main Road, Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, in November.
But as soon as they were put in place, residents started to complain to Rushcliffe Borough Council they were an eyesore.
Council officers then realised no-one had applied for planning permission for the lockers and started enforcement action, which has now resulted in a decision to remove them.

One resident, Gerry Siverns, said she would be getting out a "big bottle" of champagne to celebrate the lockers being removed.
She said: "It does stand out, doesn't it? It is an eyesore I think, another bit of clutter on the pavement. I do welcome the news they're being removed."
However, Steve Westby, 76, said he could not understand why the lockers had caused such a fuss.
"I think it's actually in a very convenient place, after all this is a shopping street, and [the lockers are] about shopping," he said.
"People are saying 'well, it encourages people to park outside', but they don't, and it's no different to people wanting to go into the shop.
"[They also] say it's unsightly, no it certainly isn't. Nimby-ism I think it is, and I think it should remain."

Rushcliffe Borough Council said it served an enforcement notice on 7 February and warned InPost and the shop owner they would need to remove the lockers or submit an application to keep them by 28 February.
"It is our understanding from InPost that the lockers will be removed before this takes effect rather than seeking an appeal," a spokesperson for the council said.
InPost said the lockers had been earmarked for removal on Wednesday.
James Retail Group, which operates the Select Convenience store where the lockers were installed, was contacted for comment.
