Drop-in event to offer pension credit eligibility advice
Residents in Medway are being encouraged to assess their eligibility for pension credit.
It is estimated that around 440 people in the area could be missing out on the benefit, which averages more than £3,900 annually.
The benefit is available to older people on an income of less than £218.15 a week or less than £332.95 as a joint weekly income. Savings are also taken into account.
Medway Council has written to all residents who are eligible to claim and has organised an event aimed at raising awareness of the financial support.
The drop-in information session will offer details about pension credit and advice on the application process.
It is being held at the former Wilko’s store, in The Pentagon Shopping Centre, Chatham, on 21 October from 10:00 BST to 14:00.
It will be manned by the council's benefits and financial welfare team as well as representatives from the Department for Work and Pensions and voluntary organisations
Councillor Teresa Murray, deputy leader of Medway Council said the benefit can help those struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.
"We want to ensure that everyone is aware of the support available to them," she said.
"This event not only raises awareness about pension credit, but also showcases the collaborative effort of our council, partners, and volunteers in demonstrating the ‘One Medway’ spirit.”
The deadline to apply for pension credit for this year is 21 December.
