Northampton Town Council's annual firework display will this year be complemented with a screening of the local history of the Gunpowder Plot

A special screening of a film about the Gunpowder Plot story with local links will take place ahead of a public firework display.

The Northamptonshire Gunpowder Plot Story, which was produced by the Northampton Film Festival, will be shown at the Racecourse in Northampton on Bonfire Night.

The film, which features local actors, artists and locations, highlights Northamptonshire’s connection to the infamous 1605 plot, which aimed to blow up the Houses of Parliament.

Councillor Jane Birch from Northampton Town Council said she was "excited" over the addition to the annual event.

Robert Catesby, one of the key conspirators, lived at Ashby St Ledgers Manor House, where the plot was devised.

The free fireworks display will take place on Saturday, 2 November.

Another free event on the same night, organised by North Northamptonshire Council, will be held in Corby at the Boating Lake, with a bonfire lighting at 19:00 GMT and fireworks at 19:30.
