Firefighters spent the night tackling a blaze involving eight lorries.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of smoke at Turnpike Lane, West Tilbury, at about 23:45 BST yesterday.

Crews from Grays, Basildon, Orsett and Corringham helped put the fire out.

Station manager Dean Riley said: “Crews worked quickly to establish a water supply and this helped firefighters contain the fire to the lorries and prevented it spreading to nearby units in the yard.”

Due to the site's remote location, crews also requested a water bowser from Corringham to help shuttle water to the scene, the fire service said.

Firefighters worked to prevent the fire spreading to nearby units and extinguished the blaze.

An investigation will be carried out to determine its cause.
