Five takeaways from Sussex’s general election results
PA MediaAfter weeks of canvassing and debating, the people of East and West Sussex have voted.
Across 17 constituencies, voters have gone to the polls in the general election, which has seen the Labour Party claim a landslide victory.
While it was a good night for Labour which gained four seats, it was an even better night for the Liberal Democrats who gained five – all from the Conservative Party.
So what did we learn?
'Airport parking firms left us out of pocket'
Kim RenyardHolidaymakers say they have been left hundreds of pounds out of pocket after using two meet-and-greet car parking firms at Gatwick, the UK's second largest airport.
One passenger said she had to get a taxi nearly 150 miles home to Norfolk after Drive Park and Fly told her they could not find her car key when she arrived at the West Sussex airport.
Meanwhile, a Galaxy Parking Limited customer said he was charged £6 each time his car entered and exited the Gatwick drop-off zone while he was on holiday.
The BBC has contacted both firms - which are not connected to Gatwick Airport - multiple times for a comment, but they are yet to respond.
Boy, 17, died in tragic school beach trip – principal
A 17-year-old boy died in a “tragic accident” during a school trip to the beach, the principal has said.
Emergency services were called to reports of concern for a boy’s welfare in the sea at West Wittering beach, near Chichester, at 13:00 BST on Tuesday.
The teenager was part of a group from Uxbridge College in London who had visited the area for a school trip, police said.
He was airlifted to hospital where he later died.
Ex-Coronation Street star Mavis makes film aged 94
Sleepless in Settle/Judy FlynnOne of the best-known faces from Coronation Street came out of retirement at the age of 94 to make a short film in East Sussex.
Thelma Barlow, who played iconic character Mavis for 26 years, stars in Sleepless in Settle, which is having its premiere in Rye on Saturday.
It was written and directed by actress Judy Flynn who is based in the town.
Ms Barlow, who is now 95 and lives in Faversham in Kent, said: "It was so lovely filming in Rye."
Saltdean Lido to close for Nick Cave series shoot
Eddie MitchellSaltdean Lido was closed for two days for the filming of a new TV series inspired by a Nick Cave novel.
In a post on social media the Grade II-listed lido, based in Saltdean, Brighton, said it would be closed on 1 and 2 July for a "large-scale film production shoot".
The pool and cafe were closed, but season ticket holders were allowed to swim between 07:00 and 09:00 BST on both days, it said.
The lido said it would earn "significant financial incentives" as a result of the shoot which it would invest in its "facilities, equipment, programme and staff".
