Holiday lets plan for five-star seaside hotel
A five-star seaside hotel could be turned into a dozen holiday flats if plans said to be aimed at "securing the building's future" are given the go-ahead.
The six-storey Langley Hotel in Whitby was put up for sale in 2023, with an asking price of £850,000.
Plans submitted to North Yorkshire Council stated the roof of the property, which was located within the town's conservation area, was in poor condition and required replacement.
If approved, the building would be turned into 12 holiday suites, with the proposed refurbishment ensuring it would "appeal to holidaymakers and provide longevity", according to the applicant.
Each suite at the hotel on Royal Crescent in the West Cliff area of the town, would be made up of a bedroom with en suite bathroom, seating area and tea point, they said.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, once the refurbishment was completed, 24-hour telephone support for guests would be available at the hotel, applicant Lodestone Projects Ltd said.
The works would "help to preserve the property on this important and impressive street", they added.
No date has yet been given for a decision on the plans by North Yorkshire Council.
