Bridge repairs expected to cause two weeks of traffic disruption will get under way later.

Maintenance along the A66 between Keswick and Threlkeld, in Cumbria, will see 722ft (220m) of bridge deck resurfaced along with the installation of five new expansion joints - which allow the bridge structure to adapt to the weather - and the renewal of deck waterproofing.

Carried out by National Highways, the project is estimated to cost £350,000.

Work is set to begin at 20:00 BST and be carried out around the clock.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place, although they will be removed between noon on Fridays and Sunday evenings to minimise the impact on Keswick during weekends.

Overnight traffic will be escorted through the road closure by a convoy vehicle.

The bridge is more than 50 years old, with National Highways previously saying it had carried out "a series of running repairs".

Work is expected to be completed by 30 September.
