More work to help protect village from flooding

More work is to take place to help stop flooding in a Lincolnshire village.

Lincolnshire County Council said improvements to ease pressure on the sewer system in Long Bennington will start on 6 January 2025.

The drainage work is a continuation of work completed in 2023, and will see new pipework and gullies installed on the western verge of Main Road, between Chapel Street and Willow Court.

Councillor Alexander Maughan said the council had invested £205,000 to "protect the village from the devastating impacts of flooding that we saw back in 2015".

He thanked residents for their patience while the work is carried out, which is expected to last eight weeks.

To keep disruption to a minimum, Main Road will remain open with temporary traffic lights in place.

Parking will be restricted on Main Road around the primary school, so parents should consider alternative arrangements for school drop off and pick up, Maughan added.

Work on school grounds is scheduled to take place during February half term.

The footpath outside the school will also be closed, with pedestrians directed to use the opposite side of the road while improvement works take place.
