Unsafe former fish quay factory to be bulldozed

A derelict former factory which has been targeted by vandals is to be demolished.
North Tyneside Council has drawn up plans to bulldoze the old Tyne Brand canning factory on the Fish Quay in North Shields which shut in the 1970s.
The site of the factory, which dates back to 1901 when local trawler owners founded the Shields Ice and Cold Storage company, has been earmarked for housing.
The authority said parts of the building were under threat of "imminent collapse".
Newcastle firm Lugano Property Group expressed an interest in constructing about 100 to 140 new homes on the site but "no firm plans have progressed to date", the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
It originally manufactured ice before becoming a canning fish factory and later canned meat, soup and jam.
The council said: "Although the site is well secured this has not prevented trespassing onto the site, which is of a serious concern in regards to public safety."
It said there had been "significant" issues with anti-social behaviour, drug taking and rough sleeping at the site.
