A murder inquiry has been launched after a man was shot dead.

Police were called to Eastfield Grove in Wolverhampton at about 15:20 GMT.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene, West Midlands Police said.

"The investigation is at a very early stage, and we'd urge people to avoid the area as road closures are in place. Officers will remain in the area throughout the day," a spokesman said.

Police have asked for anyone who saw anything, or who might have mobile phone, doorbell or dashcam footage, to get in touch with them.

MP for Wolverhampton South East, Pat McFadden said he was "shocked" to hear of the shooting in his constituency.

"Investigations are at an early stage. I would encourage anyone with any information that might be relevant to contact the police," Mr McFadden said in a post on X.
