A man has been struck and killed by a lorry on a motorway after getting out of his car following a crash.

The crash happened on the northbound carriageway of the M3 near Junction 5 for Hook shortly after 13:15 GMT on Wednesday.

The drivers of the cars involved, a blue Audi Q5 and a blue BMW 320D, had pulled over onto the hard shoulder.

The driver the of BMW, a man in his 50s from Bracknell, was hit by the HGV after getting out of his car.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the man's family had been notified.

Urging witnesses and anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward, the force said: "Lots of drivers were in the area at the time.

"We are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or any of the vehicles involved in the moments leading up to the incident to come forward."
