Guernsey's new purpose-built football stadium is preparing for its first game.

Victoria Park, in St Peter Port, will host Guernsey FC against Westfield in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday.

Rob Jones, stadium director, said he was "passionate to show fans" the new football complex which represented "10 years of hard work".

He said the new all-weather 3G pitch could mean "the days of cancelled games and tears from youngsters are nearly gone".

"We wanted a wow factor and I think we've got it," Mr Jones said, adding: "I'm most looking forward to sitting in the stand and relaxing."

A new home

Guernsey FC defender Scarlett Kenneally said the prospect of playing on the new pitch was "very exciting".

Kenneally, who is also a youth coach, said she hoped the new pitch would help inspire the next generation of female players.

She said: "I've got a lot of girls I coach who are really excited about this.

"It's for the whole community, not just a couple of teams."

She said the new stadium would give the girls and ladies teams "somewhere to call home".
