The coastguard has issued an appeal to find the owner of a partially submerged kayak found on the Isle of Sheppey.

The kayak, with orange camouflage print and two rods in holders, was discovered about 11:00 GMT on Friday at Garrison Point Pier, near Sheerness.

A rescue helicopter from Lydd, Sheppey and Medway Coastguard Rescue Teams, Sheerness inshore lifeboat and all-weather lifeboat and Kent Police took part in a search operation until 19:00 on Friday.

An HM Coastguard spokesperson said: "Extensive searches were conducted but nothing was found, so the search has now been terminated."

They asked anyone with relevant information to quote incident number 4847 when calling 999.

The BBC has contacted Kent Police for comment.
