County sees second wettest day on record

The second wettest day on record was monitored on Sunday at Shawbury Monitoring station.

The Met Office recorded that Shawbury had the highest rainfall in the country at 69.2 mm.

There was flash flooding all around Shropshire with some roads made impassable.

BBC Weather said it was "the wettest day in 50 years and the second wettest on record" for the area.

Former Environment Agency area manager Dave Throup said on X that September’s total average rainfall had fallen in a few hours on Sunday in parts of Shropshire.

The county's fire and rescue service was called to Belmont Mansions in Shrewsbury on Sunday afternoon after reports the roof was leaking, which affected the building's electrics.
