Man dies after being hit by vehicle near services
An 84-year-old man died in a crash which closed the A1 in Nottinghamshire, police have said.
The man was on foot near the Applegreen Muskham services when he was hit by a vehicle at about 07:00 GMT. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The southbound carriageway between the A57 and B6325 junctions was initially closed, with the entire dual carriageway shut shortly after.
The force says the southbound carriageway remains closed between North Muskham and Carlton-on-Trent as investigation work is carried out.
Sgt Mark Baker, from Nottinghamshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was an upsetting incident for everyone involved and we are currently working to understand what happened.
"The man's family has now been informed and our thoughts are with them at what we know will be a very difficult time."
Diversions via the A614 and A616 are in place and drivers have been advised to follow signage rather than sat navs.
