A horse called Brandy is back on his hooves after going off course into a canal.

Firefighters from Market Bosworth said they used specialist equipment to pull the "exhausted" animal from Ashby Canal in Leicestershire.

The rescue on Sunday involved the use of an "inflatable rescue path", slide sheets and farm machinery to save him.

Photos posted on social media showed the scale of the rescue after Brandy was stranded up to his mane in the canal's cold water before he was helped to safety.

The fire service said Brandy was "recovering well from his ordeal" after he was helped home to a nearby stable, warmed up by his owners and cared for by a local vet.
